Common questions
Before you book.
Anything not covered here, just ask.
Do I need to be an athlete?
No. Sports massage describes the technique, not the client. Plenty of people book because they sit at a desk all week and their shoulders and hips have had enough. You don’t need to run, lift or compete at anything.
Does it hurt?
It should be comfortable. Deep tissue work can feel intense in a tight area, but pressure is set with you and adjusted throughout — nothing is done at a pressure you haven’t agreed to. A day of mild tenderness afterwards is normal.
What should I wear?
Shorts and a vest or loose t-shirt work well. Towels are provided, and you’ll only ever be undraped in the area being treated.
How close to race day should I book?
For most people, three to five days out is the sweet spot — far enough from race day to be past any post-treatment soreness, close enough to still feel the benefit. If it’s your first ever massage, don’t book it for the day before an event.
How often should I come?
It depends on training load. In a marathon block, every two to four weeks is common. Outside of one, every six to eight weeks is plenty. You’ll get a straight answer at the end of your session rather than a package you didn’t ask for.
Where are you, and how do I pay?
Sessions are in Redbourn, St Albans, by appointment, with evenings and weekends available — the exact address comes with your confirmation. Payment is by cash or bank transfer at the end of the session.
